Promo Shot of Mr. May

I recently had someone call me a “man basher,” I have to admit I was surprised because that is not how I see myself. However, I look at every perception of me in the world as an opportunity to see if who I say I am, and who the world sees me as, are aligned. To that end, I am going to re-institute my practice of sharing why I love men and give some special attention to the Brothas!

About 7 years ago (hard to believe its been that long) I had an problem.  I wanted a sexy man calendar for my wall (yes I like to look at attractive men) and for some reason the ONLY one I seemed to like was Tyson Beckford’s.  Now there were calendars out there, but something was off for me.  It seemed like they were either Thugged Out or had  a homosexual vibe.  I didn’t see men being men(as I perceive it).

Now I love Tyson Beckford (very sexy) but I wanted a variety of Black men (not to dis men of other ethnic backgrounds, but I do have a weakness for the Brothas) to look at  because they are so diverse and nothing on the market was satisfying to me :-(   Being the eternal entrepreneur I decided to create that which I wanted and the HommeNoire Calendar was born!

The Mission as taken from the inside cover:

Positive sexy images of African American Men are hard to come by, but in high demand, so the partners of Noir Inc, came together to produce HommeNoir.  HommeNoir (french for Black Man, pronounced AHM NU ARE) celebrates the strength, diversity, and soul of the Black Man.  The HommeNoir Calendar is a sneak peek into the lives 12 Sexy Black Men; the kinds of men you dream about and want to see each and every day of the year.

The need for this project is apparent because of the multitude of negative images seen daily about Black men.  This is not our experience with Black men an HommeNoir reflects that.  HommeNoir honors the variety of interests, styles, goals, and mindsets of the Black male community.  From the surfing rocker to the businessman, to the aspiring artists, the men of HommeNoir display that Black men have it going on with style, class, and positivity!

I spent the BEST summer of my life producing this project with my Sister (the graphic artist) and the rest of the team.  I say it was the best because not only did I produce a quality project with a positive message, I got to be in the presence of beautiful, sweet, kind, sexy men!

So when I have someone label me a “man basher” or ask if I’m gay because I am and have been single for so long, I laugh because in reality, I love men, so much I spent thousands of dollars and hours to create a project that pays homage to them.  However, like  I have shared before as much as I love and want a man in my life, I love myself and will not settle for someone who does not treat me the way I want to be treated.
